No items found.

Today we discuss the common types of podcast formats with the pros and cons of each type so you can start deciding what type of podcast you want to create. We will also discuss the most important things to consider when choosing your podcast format, frequency, and length.

Steps for Skill Mastery:

  1. Decide your format
  2. Decide your publishing frequency
  3. Decide your length

Step 1: Decide Your Format

Today we will setup the foundation of your podcast by deciding your podcast format, frequency, and length.

When making these decisions, always keep two things in mind:

  • How much time do I actually have available with the commitments in my life?
  • What would my ideal avatar want?

Activity: Listen to Podcast Formats

Spend some time listening to the following different formats discussed in todays audio lesson:

  • Informative Topic Based
  • Interviews
  • Storytelling
  • Q&A
  • Season Show

Based on the different podcast format types, think about what format type you enjoyed most and would like to create, and think about what your ideal avatar likes to consume.

Activity: Choose a Podcast Format

Check the format option you would like your podcast to be:

  • Informative Topic Based
  • Interviews
  • Storytelling
  • Q&A
  • Season Show
  • Variety
  • Other

Let's continue to build your podcast's foundation.

Step 2: Decide Your Publishing Frequency

Now let’s decided on the frequency of your podcast (how often a new episode will be released.) Remember that consistency is key to the success of your podcast, so choose a frequency you can commit to.

Activity: Choose a Frequency

Check the frequency option you would like your podcast to be:

  • Daily
  • 2x per week
  • 3x per week
  • Weekly (1x per week)
  • Biweekly (2x per month)
  • Monthly (1x per month)

Let's continue to build your podcast's foundation.

Step 3: Decide Your Podcast Length

Lastly, let’s decide on the length of each of your episodes. If you are doing a variety show then the length of the episodes may vary depending on the type of content you are producing.

Activity: Choose a Podcast Length

Check the length option you would like your podcast to be:

  • Shot glass podcast – 5-10 minutes long
  • Pint glass podcast – 10-30 minutes long
  • Stein Mug podcast – 30-60 minutes long
  • The Whole Keg – 60+ minutes long

Feel free to change your format, frequency, and length but always let your listeners know you will be doing so as they get in the habit of hearing a certain type of episode and expect it from you.
