Day 37: Curating Content Ideas From Modeling Competitors

No items found.

Today we discuss how to use your competitors content to inspire ideas for your own podcast content, the best places to study and follow your competitors content, the importance of modeling them and not copying them, and how you can be unique against your competitors.

Steps for Skill Mastery:

  1. Research the major influencers in your niche

Step 1: Curate Ideas from Blogs

Inside of every niche there are already existing rockstars and influencers who are producing content for your ideal listener and audience. They have spent a lot of time to understand what that audience wants to hear about and is most likely producing content to fulfill that desire. One of the easiest ways for us to shortcut creating content our audience will want is by creating similar content to those of our competitors!

Now, remember we are modelling our competitors, not copying them!

This means we look at our competitor’s content to find content ideas and then we put our own unique knowledge, stories, experiences, and special sauce to make the content our own.

Activity: List Out People

During the research phase of making our podcast we wrote down some of the top influencers & competitors in our niche. For convenience & quick reference, list those people here.

Now start going to some of the places that they produce content and start studying what the most popular and talked about content pieces are. Some places you can start looking are their:

  • Websites
  • Podcasts
  • Youtube channels
  • Blogs
  • Social Media Profiles
  • Email newsletters
  • Ratings, Reviews, & Testimonials

Now spend some time visiting each of those areas and writing down some notes of topics and discussions that occur there.

Activity: Curate Ideas

Look over the various places your competitors create content and answer the following questions:

  • What topics are the talking about on their podcast or youtube?
  • What are people talking about in the comments of this content?
  • What topics are the talking about on their blogs?
  • What topics are the talking about inside their email newsletters?
  • What topics are the talking about on their social media posts?
  • What feedback are they getting in the comments of their social media posts?
  • What are people saying in their ratings and reviews on iTunes?

This can not be stated enough, remember we are modelling our competitors, not copying them!
