How to Start a Podcast

Day 31: Creating a Podcast Website

No items found.

Today we discuss deciding if you need a podcast website at launch, options for creating one, and the very fast and easy method to having a good looking podcast website at launch.

Steps for Skill Mastery:

  1. Create a podcast website
  2. Create shownotes for your episode

Step 1: Create Your Podcast Website

Depending on how involved you want to get for creating your first podcast website, you have a few different options:

  • If you have a preexisting website, then just add in a podcasting tab
  • Use the website provided by your media host like Transistor or Simplecast
  • Design something yourself on Webflow or Wordpress
  • Use a template to build an original website on Wordpress

For podcasters just starting out, I recommend Podpage which allows to automatically create a beautiful, listener-friendly podcast site from your RSS feed. Customize the design to create a professional look you’ll be proud of in a few clicks. No coding or technical knowledge necessary.

Activity: Create Your Podcast Website

Use either your podcast hosting platform's option for making a website or create one using podpage.

Now you have somewhere to point your listeners to on the internet!

Step 2: Create Shownotes

Both when you are uploading your episodes to you podcast hosting platform and creating pages for you episode on your website, you will want to create shownotes for your episode.

If you have a full podcast website, having a blog page or show notes page with every episode can help drive people to your website for further engagement with you and your content.

You will want to create a blog page template for yourself that you can switch out the headlines, audio, video, and show notes for each new episode.

Aside from putting these blog posts on your own website, you can post them on other blogging platforms such as Medium, LinkedIn, Quora, or niche/ industry specific blogs or forums that you contribute to.

Something you may wish to put in these blog posts are transcripts of your episode. Some people like to read transcripts rather than listen or watch video. While the text version of your recorded audio show may not seem like the most necessary plan-of-action, there are a ton of benefits that are often overlooked.

For instance, podcast transcripts lead to:

  • Improved search engine optimization (SEO) and podcast traffic thanks to easier online search ability in text form.
  • Better accessibility and inclusive for non-native speakers, times when playing audio is not an option, and especially for those with hearing disabilities.
  • More simple ways to share, be quoted and get credited by outside sources that can always be traced back to your show.

Some great examples of shownotes are:
