Day 30: Submitting to Podcast Directories

Today we discuss what and RSS Feed is and why it is important to your podcast, how you can find yours, and how to submit and publish your podcast to iTunes, Google Podcasts, Spotify.

Steps for Skill Mastery:

1. Find your RSS Feed
2. Submit to major directories
3. Submit to small directories

Step 1: Find Your RSS Feed

Once you have followed the process from yesterday to have at least one podcast episode published inside your podcast media host , you’ll be ready to publish your podcast to the world. There are several podcast platforms which you can have your podcast connected to but Apple Podcast/ iTunes is by far the largest platform. Below, we will look at how to connect your podcast RSS feed to the various platforms.

First, we will need to locate your RSS feed link inside your media host. This is the link that will be submitted to each of the platforms so they can pull information about your podcast and know when new episodes are released.

Your RSS feed link will look something like this: https://feeds.simplecast.com/JRCv_nX0

Below is how you can find your RSS Feed in Transistor and Simplecast. Other hosts will have similar areas.

After you have located your link you will use this to submit to the various distribution channels. Below is walkthrough of how to submit to the main distribution channels:

Step 3: Submit Your Podcast to Smaller Directories

Most of these will follow the following process:

1. Go to the podcast platform website and search for area to submit podcast
2. Fill out the form with your RSS Feed link
3. Wait for approval from the platform.

• AnyPod
• Audioburst
• BeyondPod
• Bullhorn
• Castbox
• Learn Out Loud – Before submitting, make sure your podcast fits their current list of categories. Podcasts outside of those categories are typically rejected.
• Listen Notes
• Miro
• Overcast – Submit your podcast to iTunes, and it will show up here automatically
• RadioPublic
• Plazoo
• PocketCasts
• Podchaser
• Podknife – After you create an account, you’ll need to click the “Suggest a Podcast” link from the menu. Fill out the form and they’ll take it from there.
• Player FM
• Radio.com – Note: It can take up to two months to be approved
• Samsung Bixby
• Women in Podcasting – This directory features female podcasters so you’ll either need to be a female host or have a female co-host to be accepted.
