What is a Self Inventory?

A self inventory is an inventory of all your skills, traits, passions, core values, career drivers, career vision, and your most valuable contribution to employers.

Why take a Self Inventory?

By doing this homework on yourself, you will reap to the following benefits:

  • You learn to describe your skills and abilities in different ways so you can approach multiple job markets.
  • Brings mindfulness to the process which has been shown to improve your decision making.
  • You can describe in detail exactly what you're looking for which will aid your networking efforts.

  • You can accurately describe to employers exactly what is unique about you and what you bring to the table that other candidates don't

What are Skills?

Skills are you're ability to do something.

  • Technical skills are gonna be the how to of many things. For example, if you're a programmer, it's you actually knowing how to code it's a technical skill. It's those skills needed for a task and the know how to use them productively and efficiently.
  • Transferable skills are skills that underlie your ability to execute the technical skills of your job effectively. These are the skills that are going to help you solve problems including critical thinking, creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and character building.

What are Personality Traits?

Personalities traits are the way you conduct yourself as you move through the world.

  • They are evolved solutions to the problem of a highly complex world.
  • Act as filters of our perception, cognition, and motivation influencing our actions in the world.
  • Creates a mask to present to the world, but if it's the wrong mask it can leave you feeling like an imposter, inauthentic, shameful and not like yourself.

  • Deconstructing past experiences
  • Taking personality assessments
  • Asking others about your strengths and weaknesses
