Day 22: Tasks or Test Projects

No items found.

Today you will learn what skill tests or projects are during the recruitment funnel, why companies have them, and how to do well on them.

Summary

What Are Test Projects?

Test projects are small tasks given during the recruiting process for you to demonstrate skills that show you can solve their specific problems and that you can continue to do it over and over and over again.

  • Example: If you're a programmer, you may be asked to take an objective test of programming skills or asked to debug a program.
  • Example: If you're a designer, you may be asked to design a webpage or graphic.
  • Example: If you're a marketer, they may have you develop a social media strategy for their company.

Why do Employers Have Test Projects?

These tests are given to you because employers need more evidence that you can solve their problems and that you're going to work well with others as you solve these problems.

If you will be doing a task repeatedly, the employer will look for the person with the best knowledge of those tasks.

  • So as long as an employer is measuring an important skill, testing that skill or having you demonstrate it through a sample project completely makes sense.

Additionally, employers might send you psychological tests to determine your personality traits to see if it will mend well with the rest of their team.

  • Employers are always trying to mitigate risk. So they want mitigate the risk of you coming in and not fitting in with their company culture.
